(KBWI, BWI) Baltimore/Washington International Airport – Baltimore, MD

Fly private to Maryland and arrive at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (IATA: BWI, ICAO: KBWI, FAA LID: BWI), an international airport located 9 miles (14 km) south of downtown, and 32 miles (51 km) northeast of Washington D.C.

The airport is named after Baltimore native Thurgood Marshall, who became the first African-American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, and it is commonly called either BWI or BWI Marshall.

Of the of three major hubs serving the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area, (BWI) Baltimore/Washington International is the busiest, handling 25+ million passengers a year, more than both (DCA) Ronald Reagan Washington National and (IAD) Washington Dulles International.

Long-range and heavy jets can choose between two long runways (10/28 & 15R/33L), while lighter jet can arrive/depart using 15L/33R, a 5,000 foot asphalt runway. Clients can arrive/depart discretely through the private terminal with FBO services offered by Signature Flight Support.

(KMTN, MTN) Martin State Airport – Middle River, MD

(MTN) Martin State is a general aviation reliever located within Middle River on Maryland State Highway 150 (Eastern Boulevard), near the intersection of Maryland State Highway 700 (Martin Boulevard).

The single 6,996-foot runway at MTN is large enough to accommodate mid-size jets and select super-mid and heavy jets, and there’s also a dedicated 65′ x 65′ helipad for quick transfers and emergency services. Both passengers and pilots can enjoy FBO services provided by Martin State.

(KFME, FME) Tipton Airport – Odenton, MD

Looking for somewhere to land in a piston or turbo-prop? Fly over to Tipton Airport (IATA: FME, ICAO: KFME, FAA LID: FME), a public airfield located just south of Fort George G. Meade in Odenton, Maryland. It’s also located just 20 miles southwest of BWI, making it an ideal alternative to busy aviation hubs.

The facility is bordered by Fort Meade, the National Security Agency, and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Tipton opened in 1999 on the site of a former United States Army Airfield, and it’s ideal for smaller prop aircraft with it’s single paved runway (10/28) measuring 3,000 feet.

(KDMW, DMW) Carroll County Regional – Westminster, MD

Hire a private plane to Carroll County Regional Airport (ICAO: KDMW, FAA LID: DMW), a public airport located three miles north of the central business district of Westminster, MD. The airport, also known as Jack B. Poage Field, is owned by Carroll County Board of Commissioners and serves the general aviation community and as a reliever airport for the Baltimore-Washington International (BWI).

Carroll County Regional features a single asphalt paved runway (16/34) that measures 5,100 x 100 feet, suitable for private jets under 135 operations. With over 150,000 aircraft operations and an average of 421 per day, Carroll County is a busy general aviation field, and there are more than 140 planes based at the airport, although roughly 85% are single-engine aircraft and less than 5% private jets.

(KGAI, GAI) Montgomery County Airpark — Gaithersburg, MD

Private flights can be arranged just outside of Baltimore using Montgomery County Airpark (IATA: GAI, ICAO: KGAI, FAA LID: GAI), located 43 miles southwest of the city and just 3 miles northeast of Gaithersburg, MD.

The airport was built by developer William E. Richardson in 1960, with only a simple hangar during its first four years until a terminal was built. It was originally designed to provide air taxi service between the Baltimore-DC metro area’s national and international airports.

Today, Montgomery County Airpark services private and general aviation operations with a single 4,202-foot runway, and a private FBO terminal. There are several flying clubs and flight schools located at the airport, accounting for a majority of the aircraft based on site.
