Corporate flight departments in Baltimore and around Maryland call us when their own aircraft is in for maintenance, becomes unavailable because of a mechanical problem, or does not suit a particular trip. We arrange a chartered aircraft with a certified operator so the trip goes ahead as planned.
When flight managers call us
The reasons are usually the same few issues. The aircraft is in for a scheduled inspection for two weeks. It becomes unavailable because of a mechanical problem while your executives are away from home. Two trips land on the same day and you have one aircraft. A board meeting needs more seats, more range or more baggage space than your own aircraft has. Each of those leaves you with a choice between canceling, flying commercial, or chartering.
The work we take off your desk
Arranging a charter properly takes time. Someone has to find an available aircraft, check the operator and crew, confirm insurance, and then get the booking through procurement, finance and legal. We handle that part for you. We do not own or operate aircraft. We arrange the flight with a certified operator as your agent, so our job is to find the aircraft that suits your trip.
Matching what your passengers are used to
Your executives know their own cabin. Tell us what you fly, and we will look first at aircraft of the same size or larger. If finance would like a smaller aircraft for a short leg, such as Teterboro at about 155 nautical miles from BWI or Boston at about 315, we can quote that as well. If your passengers usually leave from Martin State or BWI, we can arrange the charter from the same airport.
Set it up ahead of time
Call us before your aircraft becomes unavailable, so we can get an idea of your preferences for future reference. Then, when the request does come, it is a simple phone call, and we already know your passengers, your preferred aircraft size and how your company handles the paperwork. You can read how we review operators on our safety page.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Baltimore-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
BWI Marshall is about nine miles south of downtown Baltimore, owned by the State of Maryland and operated by the Maryland Aviation Administration, and Martin State Airport in Middle River, about ten miles east of downtown, suits Towson and Hunt Valley. There is no jet airport in Annapolis, so jet trips for Annapolis and the Naval Academy usually use BWI, about 17 miles away. Easton Airport serves St. Michaels and Oxford while Salisbury serves Ocean City. Baltimore winters can bring snow and the occasional nor’easter, summer brings afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. Late May, with the Preakness and the Naval Academy’s Commissioning Week, the holidays and summer weekends on the Eastern Shore book up first, so tell us your dates early.
