Baltimore Jet Charter arranges passenger and cargo flights from Baltimore and BWI for relief teams, aid groups, companies and families who need people or supplies moved after a disaster. These trips are often needed where airline service has stopped or never existed.
Moving teams and supplies
Some trips carry only a response team, some carry only supplies and equipment, and many carry both, with the team flying alongside its own load. We can also arrange flights to bring people out of an affected area once the operator confirms the airport is open. Tell us who is flying, what is going with them and where it needs to end up, and your advisor will put the options in front of you.
The airport at the other end
The state of the destination airport often settles the choice of aircraft. If the runway is short or damaged, a turboprop may be the right answer. If the airport is in good order, a larger freighter can carry far more in a single trip. Runway needs are calculated by the operator for that day’s conditions, and we confirm them with the operator. For relief work in the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos is about 1,070 nautical miles from BWI and St. Maarten about 1,450, so the passenger leg calls for a midsize jet or larger.
Telling us what is on board
Send us the weight and dimensions of the load, and tell us whether anything counts as dangerous goods. Generators, batteries, fuel and some supplies have handling requirements that change which operators can take the flight. It is much easier to sort that out before an aircraft is committed.
Flights that cross a border
Landing permits and authorizations are generally applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and after a disaster the local authority’s timeline can change at short notice. On an international trip, your advisor and the operator plan where the aircraft clears customs. When the cargo is the main part of the mission, start with our air cargo charter options.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Baltimore-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
BWI Marshall is about nine miles south of downtown Baltimore, owned by the State of Maryland and operated by the Maryland Aviation Administration, and Martin State Airport in Middle River, about ten miles east of downtown, suits Towson and Hunt Valley. There is no jet airport in Annapolis, so jet trips for Annapolis and the Naval Academy usually use BWI, about 17 miles away. Easton Airport serves St. Michaels and Oxford while Salisbury serves Ocean City. Baltimore winters can bring snow and the occasional nor’easter, summer brings afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. Late May, with the Preakness and the Naval Academy’s Commissioning Week, the holidays and summer weekends on the Eastern Shore book up first, so tell us your dates early.
